As a teacher, especially an English teacher, I am often faced with the sounds of moans and groans whenever we read… especially if the reading is for homework or in any way on their own. It’s a thing that has been particularly bothersome to me.
And now they (the mysterious they) have made me a Reading teacher as well. But instead of teaching kids how to love reading, I feel like I’m just testing them and making reading even more unpleasant for them than it already was.
It made me think… like really dig down deep and think, how do we get students to like reading?

This weekend, if we were sharing stories, we’d be curled up with something soothing. I’m having some detox tea, and while I’ve had my shower, I’ve put my jammies back on. I have serious plans to do almost nothing today.
Maybe play some Sims 4… but other than that, I’m not doing anything else today!

Good afternoon Rewinders! I have to admit I’m in a fairly wonderful mood! While on the one hand, it seems imminent that I’m going to be forced to do things that aren’t what’s best because Some don’t see the value in my way, on the other (the one that is more important), I’m being constantly reaffirmed for my gifts. My success lately is in being able to identify that those positive affirmations of my talents are more important, and more true than the criticisms in my methods.

#Update: When I wrote this, I hadn’t seen the latest news about the flooding. Hurricane Harvey, or Tropical Storm Harvey, has done quite a bit more damage than I thought, and my school has been canceled until September 5th due to the damage there. So, I am very glad I left when I did! And also, I’m sorry if my tone was flippant in this post.
This week’s coffee share title is something I wish I could take credit for, but it’s actually something I’ve seen floating around Facebook because of Hurricane Harvey, which actually, I’m thinking (at least for my part of the world) is thankfully turning out to be a bit of a let down.
