A New Name…

So I was having lunch with the Old Boy yesterday and he asked me what the New Boy’s name was… I think perhaps it amuses him that everyone gets a nickname. But I didn’t have the heart to tell him that the guy I’m currently seeing (not sure dating is the right word… not sure what we’re doing to be perfectly honest) had stolen his name.

I don’t know why I thought it would bother him. I mean, after all, he didn’t like the nickname in the first place. He didn’t understand the significance of it. He thought it was meant in a derogatory sense, or some such.

Admittedly, I should have thought about the racial connotations of such a thing, but that was not how it was meant! And if he’d known anything about me at the time, he’d have realized that, but for some reason he seems to always assume that I have the worst intentions.

Especially with names.

Weekend Coffee Share: Sleepover

This weekend, if we were sharing about our lives over coffee, we’d be doing it with wine instead, while watching the Oscars. My weekend was a bit out of sorts, but in a mostly good way. Friday evening I got back into a weekly tradition with some of the girls from work that I’ve missed, so I couldn’t write Friday night.

And yesterday was a continuous back and forth of hurry up and wait. I allowed myself to sleep in, took a leisurely bath so I could make my legs good and smooth, then raced to get my nails done, only to have to wait… for 4 hours… until they were done. All so I could be ready for date night with the New Boy.

Start with the Little Things.

I came across a quote by Peter Capaldi today. I’ve seen it before, but it always sticks with me. It was a quote from an interview, one of several, where he talks about his wife. It always gives me a feeling that all is right with the world when I see or hear him talk about his wife. It is proof that romance is in fact still alive and kicking, and that there are still people who find that everlasting love, the one that I every now and then think might just be a myth.

And it’s all because of the little things. While I’m sure there’s more to the story, one of my favorite Peter Capaldi quotes is in response to a question about someone doing something nice for him.
