Midsummer Blessings

Merry meet to all my friends and followers of the witchy/pagan persuasion!

Today is Midsummer (or apparently it began officially sometime last night… which makes no sense to me), a day that in my past has been about love. Remember a Midsummer’s Night Dream by Shakespeare? (Or my post about how that play is the source of the Rom-Com formula?) That has been my view of Midsummer in the past.

But today is different. Today love has no place for me. Or I have no place in my heart for love.

I will not fall prey to the folly of fairy folk. Titania and Oberon, and the mischievous Puck will not tempt me. They offer visions of happiness in futures that do not exist for me. It always leads to heartache and confusion and an overall sensation that I am unworthy of the love that I offer to others.

But I am worthy.

And I will not be afraid of my fate, though I know not what it is. I release myself from all feelings so that I may see with clear eyes.

On this day, the longest day of the year, when the sun is at it’s zenith, I call upon the wisdom and truth of the Lord Apollo. May he grant me true sight.

God of light, purity, and the sun. Patron to poets, player of the Lyre, deital musician. Child of Leto, son of Zeus, twin to Artemis. Named Phoebus meaning bright, open my eyes so that I may find the light that shines upon my path.

May I walk no more in the shadows and slippery fantasies of the moonlight, but with eyes wide open in the brightest light of the day.

Delphic by nature, father of Ascelpius. God of prophecy, creator of the Pythia. God of youth, beauty, and strength. God of intelligence and reason, I ask thee again: open my eyes to the truth so that I may find my way out of the darkness.

My soul wanders in the shadowy halls of hopes unfulfilled, and I have grown weary of this unending sorrow as I choose wrongly time and again.

Lover of Daphne and Cassandra, mourner of Hyacinthus. Phoebus Apollo Helios, god of the sun, the god of all things bright and righteous. Sing me a tune along with your beautiful lyre, crown me with laurels, and wake me from my slumber that I may find my true path.

This I ask on this, the Summer Solstice, this holy Midsummer, known as Litha.

May you all have a blessed Midsummer/Litha
